SocialMediaWannabe? (cross-post)

Well, the experiment is over. I wanted to try something and it sort of worked. "socialmediawannabe" is going to die tomorrow (if you want the domain name, knock yourself out). I've transferred all the posts over toddlyden.com and will shut down the whole blog shortly. Thanks for riding the wave. My sabbatical this past year has been mainly due to personal changes. Most of you that know me, know I never stopped paying attention, but I just could not devote the time to regular writing like I wanted. As I move forward, I am going to consolidate everything on the personal site and see where it takes me. Thanks again for sticking with me... hope to see you around.

Bragging and Knowing Your Life Plan

‎1st. You're a baby. 2nd. You're a kid. 3rd. You're a teenager. 4th. You are a young adult. 5th. You are in college. 6th. You get married. 7th. You have kids. 8th. You are old grandma or grandpa. 9th. You DIE. 10th. Your life is over. I have two points today. 1. I tend to talk about my youngest a lot on here. Is that ok? Is it bragging? Partially. I am so impressed with what she does and says sometimes, I just want it slightly validated that what I thought was cool is cool. Sure, I'm biased, but some of what she does and says is just nuts. Look up there: she wrote that. Six years old and she has it all figured out. Step six in life? "You get meredid." Mark Schaefer was talking today  about how bloggers needed to express more pride. For him, it was finally getting quoted in the NY Times. He describes this "bragging" as a taboo, but I don't see it. I suppose it is semantics, but whether you wrap it up in a "let me share an experience s...

How Posterous Caused Me to Jump Ship

Image via Wikipedia Well this wasn't how I was going to do this, but what the heck. I was ready to bag on Posterous a while back, but after I made the decision to move my "social media" stuff exclusively over to www.socialmediawannabe.com  (go ahead you can check out the goodies there) I was contemplating my next move for toddlyden.com. I learned the entire structure of hosting and the domain were farked up and back tonight so I jumped shipped over to Blogger. Why? 1. I was able to move the entirety of the old blog over with so little hassle it wasn't even funny. Posterous keeps pushing people to move their blogs to them and they would LOVE to have you, but I had almost ZERO time and effort in shifting the old posts over to the new host. 2. Blogger is CHEAP. Oh, yeah- it's FREE. Well so is Posterous, but dang they were killing me. I love FREE but it should be as reliable as possible and I already had experience with a lovely time over here at Blogspot . ...

Kill All Blogs

Cause what the world needs now is another folk singer like I need a hole in my head. Lyrics by Cracker, "Teen Angst"  What the world doesn't need: 1. another blog about blogging 2. another blogger who just wants to help others to blog (about blogging) 3. another "I'll show you how to get $ from blogging" program/guide/class Really. We just pure D do not need another. I implore you, if you are considering starting another blog about blogging. Just Don't. I've immersed myself in the blogosphere fairly hardcore for over a month and I am here to say, no more.  Caveats: 1. Blogs are good, blogs are tools, blogs are innocent. It is the repetitive use of blogs to promote blogging about blogs which is overdone.   2. Blogging for money. Caveat on the caveat: using blogs to promote your business is not bad, in fact, its a great idea, but thousands of ads? Not good, nor is shilling every affiliate product to come down the pike. 3. ...
